here in the North I have the desert and the sea in my distances (Depths of mystery and remoteness) Mixture of sand and sea! Burning and refreshing conjunction That defines the whirlpool in my blood. And as my land has been forgotten So my northern heart forgets And here in the voracious basin of my lap All the thirst of my desert continues.

 Port of Tocopilla. The nitrate and iodine produced in Pedro de Valdivia, María Elena and Coya Sur is transported to this port in a mountain railway and there are sharp gradients on the way. The mechanization of the bulk nitrate shipments in operation since August 1960, permits loading a complete vessel in a few hours. This is the only nitrate port that exists at present. |
